In 2010, researchers examined the past three years of manufacturing industry data collected by Pennsylvania’s Industrial Resource Centers, state offices and other relevant research groups to figure out exactly how manufacturing has impacted the Commonwealth, and to develop recommendations on what policymakers can do to foster the industry.

Called the “Pennsylvania’s True Commonwealth: State of Manufacturing – Challenges and Opportunities,” the study was publicly released on February 15, 2011, and was led by one of the nation’s foremost thought leaders on manufacturing, Dr. Edward W. Hill.

Dr. Hill began examining Pennsylvania’s manufacturing industry in 2004, when he worked with the IRCs on a report called “Manufacturing Pennsylvania’s Future”, which today is nationally recognized for helping Pennsylvania develop the policies which got manufacturing to where it is today.

The “State of Manufacturing” encompasses both quantitative and qualitative data, and will help us work toward our goal of growing the industry to its fullest potential.

Dr. Hill, the Industrial Resource Centers, and other partners revealed key data and recommendations in a public announcement  on February 15 at Pennsylvania’s Capitol building.
